UEFA released the nominees for positional play in both women’s and men’s categories. Five Chelsea players made the cut while three Manchester City players were included in the list. For UWCL Barcelona -the champions lead the women’s nomination with eight players.
Thibaut Courtois, Ederson, and Eduoard Mendy made it to the best three goalkeepers for the past season. Courtois conceded 14 goals in twelve appearances and four clean sheets.
Whereas, Ederson conceded five with 7 clean sheets and Mendy dominates both the keepers with nine clean sheets with conceding just 3.
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta lifted the trophy and made it to the list alongside his teammate Antonio Rudiger. City’s Ruben Dias was the other nominee who played the final against Chelsea.
Chelsea’s two pivotal midfielders N’golo Kante and Jorginho has been named in the top 3 along with Kevin De Bruyne who assisted four and scored 3.
Borrusia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland made it to the list for the first time scoring 10 goals and two assists. Robert Lewandowski, last year’s winner for the category is back on the list with five goals.
Kylian Mbappe(10) who played most matches among the three is also part of the forward category.
For the women’s UEFA nominees, Barcelona swept the forward’s category with all three positions.
Caroline Graham Hansen, Jenni Hermoso, and Lieke Martens have all made it into the top three.
Hermoso was the tournament’s joint top-scorer with six along with Chelsea’s Fran Kirbywhile Martens finished with five.
In the midfielder section, Barcelona dominated once again with Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas made it to the list along with Chelsea’s Ji So-yun.
The players were shortlisted from coaches of the 32 teams in the 20/21 season together with 55 journalists selected by European Sports Media (ESM) Group.
Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team players.
