KL Rahul was the stand-in captain for the ODIs
The Indian cricket team had a poor performance in South Africa, collapsing to defeats in both the Test and ODI series. The visitors lost the red-ball series 1-2, and Virat Kohli stepped down as Test captain as a result. In the absence of full-time white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma, Team India were swept in the ODIs following the Test series. KL Rahul was the stand-in captain for the ODIs. Fans and experts were taken aback by Kohli’s decision to step down as Test captain. Harbhajan Singh, a former cricketer, believes that the 33-year-decision old’s to step down as Test captain was “a slight setback” for Team India ahead of the ODI series.
Harbhajan Singh said on Sports Tak that India’s Test series loss may have had a “big impact.”
South Africa did not have a quality team
“Regarding Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as Test captain… I believe the outcome had a significant impact. Many people reflect on what occurred. If Virat Kohli is worried about it, then so are the other players. Only he will know why he is stepping down as captain. However, I believe that resigning as captain during the tour was a minor setback for the team “, he explained.
Harbhajan further stated that because South Africa did not have a quality team, this was India’s best chance to overcome them in their own backyard.
“What happened in South Africa was unexpected. Squad India went there, and I believed it would be a good chance to beat South Africa in their own backyard because they are known to have a great team; they used to be. However, this Indian team was defeated by a weaker opponent. “I don’t think they have many well-known players, and their bowlers aren’t particularly good,” he remarked.
“Even Team India must be thinking that they missed a fantastic opportunity after losing the series, as it was their best chance.”
“If you look at the South African team, you won’t see AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Dale Steyn, or Jacques Kallis.”
Kohli also stepped down as Team India’s T20I captain
“As a result, Team India blew a major opportunity,” he added.
After the T20 World Cup last year, Kohli also stepped down as Team India’s T20I captain. In December, he was also relieved of his ODI captaincy, with Rohit Sharma named full-time white-ball skipper.
