Former Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has rejoined the national side, with Sri Lanka Cricket naming a 22-man squad for a white-ball series against South Africa.
The match begins on September 2 in Colombo and includes three ODIs and as many T20Is. Chandimal last played international cricket in March, when Sri Lanka played against West Indies for a limited-overs series.
Opener Kusal Perera, who missed the entire home series against India due to a shoulder injury, will return to the squad. Also, bowler Binura Fernando, who missed the ODIs against India due to an ankle sprain, is among the returns.
Dasun Shanaka, who led Sri Lanka to a 2-1 victory over a depleted India side in the home T20Is, is set to lead the team, with Dhananjaya de Silva as his deputy. In contrast, the home side boasts three uncapped players in right-arm off-break bowler Maheesh Theekshana, all-rounder Lahiru Madhushanka, all-rounder Pulina Tharanga. In Colombo, the Sri Lankan team is currently enclosed in a bio-secure bubble.
Meanwhile, South Africa is without Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Lungi Ngidi for the ODIs on September 2, 4, and 7, part of the ICC ODI Super League. All are anticipated to play in the T20Is that follow (on September 10, 12, and 14).
While de Kock has been rested for the One-Day Internationals, Ngidi has withdrawn for personal reasons. Miller is recovering from a hamstring ailment and is anticipated to be fully healthy for the 20-over matches.
