IPL 2021 Match No.59 Qualifier 2 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals on 13 October in Sharjah. While Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets and qualify for the finals.
However, Kolkata Knight Riders former skipper Dinesh Karthik was fine for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 clash against DC. The wicketkeeper has admitted to the offence and will pay the fine as a result.
The league released a statement that declared Dinesh Karthik had committed a Level 1 Offence 2.2.
The statement read:
“Dinesh Karthik, the Kolkata Knight Riders wicketkeeper-batsman, has been reprimand for breaching the VIVO Indian Premier League( IPL ) Code of Conduct during his teams Qualifier 2 against Delhi Capitals at Sharjah on Wednesday 13th October 2021.”
“Mr. Karthik admitted to the Level 1 Offence of 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
The exact nature of the breach was not specified by the IPL but Dinesh Karthik was seen dislodging a stump out of frustration after he was dismissed during the high-voltage game on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik is known for his calm head and even acted as a peacemaker the last time these two sides met in Sharjah. He played an active role in things not escalating between Ravichandran Ashwin and Eoin Morgan during the argument on the extra run.
