Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a major setback losing all-rounder Sam Curran to injury. The youngster complained about back pain after their match against the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Due to this, Sam Curran won’t participate for the remainder of the season and also misses out on the T20 World Cup. However, CSK replaced him with a Barbadian all-rounder Dominic Drakes.
Chennai Super Kings signed Caribbean bowler, Dominic Drakes as an injury replacement for the remainder of IPL 2021. The 23-year-old left-arm seamer, son of former West Indies cricketer Vasbert Drakes, was one of the stars of St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots side that recently clinched the Caribbean Premier League 2021 title. Dominic finished with 16 wickets in the tournament.
Dominic Drake shows similar characteristics with the likes of Sam Curran. He is a left-arm fast bowler like Curran. Furthermore, he finished CPL 2021 as the highest wicket-taker for his team and fourth-highest overall picking 16 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 8.56.
Moreover, Drake also bats right-handed down the order. He had scored 102 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 161.90. His most recent knock gained the limelight for scoring a match-winning 48 runs in 24 balls against St Lucia Kings in the final match of Caribbean Premier League 2021.
Chennai Super Kings sign off the group stage with their last match against the Punjab Kings. However, Dominic Drakes involvement in the game remains questionable.
