Delhi Capitals will fly to the UAE this Saturday for the remainder of the 14th edition of the IPL. However, Indian star batsman, Shreyas Iyer is already in the UAE with his fitness coach. The team will join him after their international commitments.
An official from the Delhi Capitals who spoke to ANI said, “Delhi Capitals will leave on Saturday early morning to UAE for IPL 2021. The team will leave from Delhi with domestic players and officials. Domestic players are already in quarantine in the national capital and they will be quarantined in UAE for a week. Post quarantine their camp will be starting”.
He then added “Shreyas Iyer is already in UAE with a fitness coach and the rest of the players from India, South Africa and England will join the team after their international assignments are over. However, the Capitals haven’t decided on their captains yet. “The captain issue remains undecided. It will be Pant or Iyer. The team management has not decided on this”. Shreyas Iyer led the side to their first IPL final in 2020. This resulted in a loss against the mighty Mumbai Indians.
Iyer suffered a shoulder dislocation injury in a match against England. Since the injury, Rishabh Pant had to step into the captaincy role and lead the side in the latest edition. Iyer completed an intense rehabilitation program during his week-long stay at the NCA. Due to this, the medical team has declared Iyer fit to return to competitive cricket.
“This couldn’t have happened at a better time with India’s T20 World Cup campaign in two months’ time,” a senior BCCI source told PTI. With Iyer making a comeback the Indian side will have a better balance in the middle order.
The Delhi side is currently at pole position with a 2 point lead against the Chennai Super Kings. In their latest match, they beat Punjab Kings to climb up to first place. They will now play the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 22nd September 2021.
