Virat kohli opened up at Post match press conference. Resuming on their overnight score of 215 for 2, India lost 8 wickets for 63 runs in less than a full session to get bowled out for 278 in their second innings, with their middle-order once again failing miserably against the pace and guile of the England fast bowlers.
Ollie Robinson finished with 5 wickets for 65 runs while Craig Overton bagged 3 for 47 to wrap up the proceedings for England, who bounced back from the Lord’s defeat last week to level the series in Leeds.
Skipper Virat Kohli’s Press Conference
Virat Kohli eventually opened up during the post match press conference. He said, “It’s down to scoreboard pressure. We knew we were up against it when we were out for 80 and the opposition put up a big score”.
Furthermore he mentioned “We put up crucial partnerships and saw the day through, but the pressure from the English bowlers was brilliant this morning and we didn’t respond well’.
Adding on to it virat said, “Batting collapses can happen in this country, the pitch was good to bat on, but their discipline with the ball forced us to make a few mistakes, and it was difficult to deal with spells where we weren’t getting runs. We didn’t make good decisions as a batting side,”.
However he praised the English opponent by saying. “The pitch looked good to bat on, and when England batted it hadn’t changed much, so they had a lot more intent with the bat, made better decisions. They were the deserving side to win to be honest.
“You could say that we don’t have enough batting depth, but the top order has to give enough runs to the lower middle order to step up. The lower order can’t bail the team out all the time.”
Kohli said India didn’t have much positives to take from this Test apart from their batting on the final two sessions on Day 3.
