The English side made a fine start to the second innings with Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns sticking on to the pitch at stumps yesterday. Though straight after Burns scored his 11th Test fifty, Thakur gave India a lift on the next ball. A nick of the bat sent the ball straight into the hands of Pant behind the wickets.
Hameed may have put on a good score on the board but he looked unsettled, he rather played a protective game than go an attack. When he got a little impatient he sent the ball into the air at mid-on to Siraj. But Siraj dropped Hameed at 55 and injured himself while going for a catch.
Dawid Malan too got saved from an umpire’s call at the review but his time soon ended. Hameed rushed him for a quick single at mid-off where substitute Mayank Aggarwal threw quickly to Pant to catch Malan out. There was no single in any format of the game and Malan had to be sacrificed.
It was captain Joe Root on the ground but Jadeja was enjoying the spin with the rough pitch. Root also found it difficult to adjust to the swing provided. While Jadeja picked up Hameed’s wicket bowling him out as Hameed showed the stumps and the ball spun.
Ollie Pope who played a good standing first innings got bowled by Bumrah scoring just two runs. The momentum went quickly into India’s favour. With England in trouble, Jonny Bairstow also got caught from a fuller length and got himself bowled.
The troubles weren’t ending for England, as Jadeja caught the spinner and vice-captain Moeen Ali.
