Ben Stokes, the dynamic all-rounder is most likely to miss the T20 World Cup in October. The 30-year-old announced his indefinite break to protect his mental well-being, in July and could miss the World Cup.
Alongside Jos Butler, Ben Stokes too won’t be participating in the second half of the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals. He will not be fulfilling the remainder of his £1.4million contract. This comes as a huge blow to the franchise. However, Rajasthan Royals have named their replacement in batsman Evin Lewis and pacer Oshane Thomas.
To protect his mental health, Stokes opted to take an indefinite break from all forms of cricket prior to the start of the India-England Test series. He says that he is not thinking about cricket at the moment.
With the T20 World Cup around the corner, teams have to submit their squad list to ICC by next Friday. England’s selectors will pick a 15-man group plus three reserves this weekend. An announcement expected next Thursday, on the eve of the final Test match vs India in Manchester.
However, changes can be made freely up until October 10, seven days before the tournament’s group stage begins. Chris Silverwood could provisionally name the 2019 World Cup-winning star within that 18.
Meanwhile, the ICC is hopeful that crowds will be permitted at the October tournament. The world governing body is awaiting confirmation from the government in the UAE.
