Chandigarh Police constables Sachin Kumar and Rakesh Kumar are fond of mountaineering. They have created a new record by hoisting the 50 meter tricolor on Mount Yunam.
Sachin Kumar told that he is fond of mountaineering and he has been doing mountaineering course for many years. This time to make the 75th Independence Day also special, Rakesh Kumar and I hoisted the 50 meter national flag on the top of Mount Yunam. Sachin told that although there is a camp of 12 to 15 days to conquer this peak, but he conquered this peak in three days. Let us tell you that Mount Yunam is in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The height of Mount Yunam is 6111 meters above sea level.
The experience of climbing was very special
Sepoy Rakesh told that we got information about trekking on Mount Yunam from another climber. As soon as I got this information, I spoke to Sachin and then we started preparing for it. After taking leave from the department, we registered ourselves with the Online Indian Mountaineering Foundation. Our guide Anurag Sood told us that other team members have left for the designated base camp Bharatpur for this trek, so you have to join us at the base camp itself.
After this we reached Manali on 12th August after traveling about 300 kms from Chandigarh. After that rested for a few hours and then proceeded from Baralacha to Bharatpur Base Camp. On 14th August around 1 pm we started climbing and the next day on 15th August around 8 am we reached Mount Yunam. There were 20 people in our team. But due to the high height, only 12 people were able to conquer this peak.
Department should also help mountaineers
Constable Rakesh said that while every sport is promoted by the department, mountaineering is not given the same priority. Mountaineering is very expensive, in such a situation, the government and the department should cooperate with the mountaineers like other players.
