His comments come as the Centre has given the BSF authority to search, arrest, and seize suspects up to 50 kilometres inside Indian territory from the International Border (IB) along the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh frontiers. The measure is intend to ensure the “zero tolerance” for terrorism and cross-border criminal activity.
Deputy CM Randhawa criticized the Centre
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, also criticised the Centre, claiming that the Modi government is attempting to warp the Constitution’s federal system.
“There are no valid reasons for the Indian government to unilaterally change existing arrangements except to weaken state governments and the spirit of federalism: Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister, on the Centre’s decision to extend BSF authority in the state “he stated.
The Centre is attempting to pervert the federal structure of the Constitution by bestowing police powers on BSF officers without consulting or securing the consent of State governments, Randhawa remarked.
Meanwhile, Union Minister M A Naqvi praise the Centre’s decision, saying that while our security force’s spirits are high, their hands are tied somewhere. Today, terrorism is a global challenge that must be address, which is why this decision should be applauded.
“Those who understand the land’s realities will welcome it, but those who do not will engage in politics. States have rights, but isn’t national security the responsibility of everyone? “Added the minister.
Meanwhile, Punjab minister Pargat Singh has claim that the action was orchestrate by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
“Captain is exclusively with the BJP, I’ve always said. He had gone to Delhi before to cause a delay in paddy procurement, and now this… The deployment of BSF in Punjab reveals your intention to establish governor rule “he stated
