The Talegaon Dabhade police in Pune arrested a man for allegedly raping and murdering his 19-year-old sister-in-law.
The police have identified the 26-year-old accused as Tukaram who lived in Thomas Colony. He had offered his cousin and his wife, the victim a room at his place.
The suspect asked the woman to accompany him and his friend to visit an ancient temple on the hillock. After that, they started asking for sexual favours from her and raped her when she refused and resisted.
His friend and the suspect then strangled her with a dupatta. They also smashed her head with a big stone to prevent recognition and thereafter tied her body to a tree.
The woman’s husband found his wife missing and questioned his question. He then took the accused to the police station because of his evasive answers.
After police are actively searching for the other suspect.
Pune Police released a statement after the arrest
The Police Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad, Krishna Prakash talked about the arrest and the details of the case.
“The officers have arrested the main accused while a search is underway for the second accused”. Prakash said that the accused took the victim out under the pretext of showing her an ancient temple. However, he along with one of his friends demanded physical favours from the 19-year-old girl.
“When the girl resisted, the main accused’s friend raped her. Later as the girl further agitated, the main accused strangled her with her own scarf and destroyed her face to destroy the evidence,” added the Police Commissioner.
The police have booked the accused and the suspected under Sections 302, 201, and 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
Section 302 stands for Punishment for murder, 376 for Punishment of Rape. Additionally, the 201 is for Causing the disappearance of evidence of an offence or giving false information to screen the offender.
