In view of rising cases of the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The union government announced the administration of precaution doses and vaccines for teenagers from Jan 10th and 3rd, respectively. The Goa state government aims to expedite inoculation for all beneficiaries in the respective age group.
Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday announced that the state has gained the required number of vaccine doses and aims to administer the first dose of the vaccine to all 72,000 beneficiaries between the age group of 15 to 18 within three to four days beginning from Monday.
“Goa has already received 72,000 doses to vaccinate the children between the age group of 15 to 18 years. The government would inoculate them within 3-4 days from January 3 onwards,” Rane said to the news agency ANI. Further, he also added that medical teams will visit schools if the need arises.
This announcement came after a review meeting of the Covid-19 situation in the country held with union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya. All state and union territories, health ministers, took part in the review meeting. The topics of attention included the Omicron variant and the vaccination drive. The review meeting focused on decisions particularly based on inoculation of those between 15 and 18 years of age and. Administration of precautionary doses announced for healthcare workers and those above 6o years.
Goa Witnesses Rise in Covid cases

The state is yet to reach the record of complete coverage of the second dose. According to the data from the union health ministry. Nearly 2,407,567 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been Inoculated in Goa as of 6.30 pm. Including 1,301,807 first doses and 1,105,760 second doses.
The state on Saturday reported 310 new Covid-19 cases with no new casualties as the total confirmed cases reached 181,182 and the death toll remained unchanged at 3,522, a bulletin from the state government stated.
However, the state is yet to impose stringent measures to curb the spread of the infection, and is expected to be announced on Monday. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will hold a meeting with the state task force, Rane said.
