On Thursday, the Madhya Pradesh government passed an order regarding the increase in OBC reservation to 27 percent. The government has decided to extend the benefits of the OBC category from 14 percent to 27 percent.
This government took this decision in obedience to the amended Public Service Act.
“Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government has cleared 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes for all departments. He just excluded the three departments which the authorities put on stay. It’s a historic decision,” said the Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh.
Madhya Pradesh Government’s General Administration Department issued an order. The order clarified the stay orders granted by the High Court in the cases relating to OBC reservation.
As per the order, “There are various writ petitions pending before the Hon’ble High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Principal Seat at Jabalpur, where the provisions of the M.P. Lok Seva Sanshodhan Adhiniyam, 2019 are under challenge. Whereby the authorities have increased reservation for the OBC class from 14 percent to 27 percent.”
Moreover, the government is also thinking to provide 10 percent reservation to economically weaker sections.
The order stated that earlier through Additional Advocate General, the authorities gave the opinion on 18.08.2020 to National Health Mission. It advised that the appointments on the posts related to some contractual appointment in NRHM Department can be made confining the OBC reservation to the tune of 14 percent. However, authorities made it clear that the government should maintain the merit positions for the entire 27% and the remaining 13 percent will depend upon the final outcome of the case.
The state government can now proceed as per implementation of provisions of Act 1994 as a result of the order passed.
