Karnataka’s first train with Vistadome coaches started its service. It was flagged off at Mangaluru Junction Railway Station on the 11th of July.
The South Western Railway has two Vistadome coaches on Yeshwanthpur-Mangaluru and Junction Yeshwanthpur day train service.
The Vistadome coaches were introduced to promote Railway tourism. It is designed to provide scenic views to the passengers. The route of the Vistadome trains is through the western ghats and the coach offers the view of Western Ghats’ stunning beauty.
The Vistdome offers its passengers features such as an observation lounge with a large window to experience the scenic routes, 44 recliner chairs and 180-degree rotatable seats, automatic sliding doors with large windows on each side, glass rooftops, foldable snack table, mini pantry, multi-tiered steel luggage shelve, an entertainment system integrated with digital display screens, access to ‘content on demand’ for passengers accessible on phones through Wi-Fi, CCTV surveillance systems, fire safety systems, Bio-toilets etc. The ticket fare for this train experience is set at 1500 rupees.
On the train’s first service, both the coaches were packed with passengers to the full capacity.
The South Western Railway has also attached two Vistadome coaches on two tri-weekly trains.
The train’s journey was flagged off on Sunday in the presence of Karnataka MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangalore South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru Mayor Premanand Shetty, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Rajendra KV, and other officials.
“The journey was great, a lot of fun. This is the best Ghat. Whoever is from Bengaluru, you must experience the Western Ghats in the next two months on this train. The view is ultimate. A 10/10 from my side,” said a passenger who travelled on the train on Sunday, in a video shared by the Southern Railway’s official Twitter handle.
