The Indian Navy’s Eastern Command in Visakhapatnam is preparing to provide assistance in case of a severe cyclonic storm. Asani’s landfall on May 11, a Navy statement said.
As per IMD predictions, severe cyclonic storm Asani will reach close to Kakinada. And so on Visakhapatnam coasts by the morning of May 11 and move over Andhra Pradesh coast and weaken into a cyclonic storm.
Severe cyclonic storm Asani lays over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. About 260 km southeast of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, 300 km south of Visakhapatnam, 490 km south-southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha. And 570 km south-southwest of Puri in Odisha. So cyclone Asani, moving at a speed of 10 kmph, is likely to move north-west-wards by tonight. And reach north Andhra coast and adjoining Odisha coast.
Union home secretary reviews cyclone preparedness; NDRF deployed in Andhra, Odisha, Bengal
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness for severe cyclone Asani. Which is passing over the Bay of Bengal on the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. Where rescue troops deployed to assist civilians, officials said.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed nine teams in Andhra Pradesh. And kept seven more teams on standby while one team deployed and 17 units are ready in Odisha.
In West Bengal, 12 teams deployed and five teams were ready, while additional teams are also ready if needed.
“The Union Home Secretary today reviewed the preparedness of the Central Ministries. So that Agencies and Administrations of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in the wake of cyclone. ‘Asani’ in the Bay of Bengal,” a Home Ministry spokesperson said. (PTI)

And so adding that the cyclone is likely to move close to the coast of north Andhra Pradesh. And south Odisha in the next 24 hours.
The headquarters of eastern naval command and naval officers in charge in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha regions have carried out preparatory activities to deal with the impacts of severe cyclone and are in constant touch with the respective state administrations to provide assistance as and when required, the statement said.
