A First Information Report has been registered against more than 2,000 supporters of the Samajwadi Party (SP) for defying COVID-19 protocols. As thousands turned out for the virtual rally, said Sujeet Pandey Lucknow Police commissioner.
Moments after the SP’s Virtual rally a team of Lucknow police arrived at the party office in UP’s capital. Claiming violation of the COVID protocols and also the breach model of conduct of the Election Commission of India
According to the Lucknow Police, The party did not take any prior permission for Friday’s event. However, they have not yet put out names of the leaders who have not been in the First Information report. He further stated ” We have taken note of the matter, and we found a violation of Model Code of Conduct and. Defying COVID-19 protocols. we have registered an FIR in this matter,” stated Abhishek Prakash Lucknow DM.

In View of the COVID pandemic situation, The Election Commission Of India had earlier announced that Political parties shall mandatorily hold their rallies and meetings virtually and ban physical rallies till January 14. While Samajwadi party held a virtual rally in Lucknow earlier today. However, The rally saw a massive number of gatherings, Supporters, and workers of the party gathered in hundreds of numbers.

In the meantime, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi attacked the ‘SP’ saying. “Would you be breaking protocols for your political goals? The SP is corrupt, dishonest & even the new additions don’t follow any rules. They think of themselves that they are above law; let them smile now…will see ‘mountain of tears’ after poll results”
Countering the BJP’s statement SP party chief Naresh Uttam Patel said. “The Crowds is visible at BJP minister’s doorsteps and in markets also. And further said that the leaders at the rally were following the COVID protocols”
“The event was virtually inside our party office. We did not call anyone but people rushed in. The crowd can be seen at BJP ministers doorsteps also, but they have a problem with us”

The SP gets a big boost after former Uttar Pradesh minister Swami Prasad Maurya along with his supporters joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the presence of the SP chief on Friday.
Along with these leaders. The sitting MLA’s Bhagwati Sagar, Vinay Shakya, Roshan Lal Verma, Mukesh Verma, and Brajesh Kumar Prajapati have so far departed the BJP and Joined the SP Earlier today.
