Police said they had arrested five men, two of them were under the age of 18, for allegedly raping a 60-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh, Singrauli district, on Monday.
Five people have been arrested in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly raping a 60-year-old woman. Two minors are also among the suspects who have been arrested. On the night of August 15, the incident occurred near the Singrauli railway crossing on Sunday.
According to the police, the elderly tribal woman was going to her house at 8 pm. Five people were drinking alcohol, near the railway crossing. The elderly woman was raped in the bushes by five drunken men.
Soon after, the accused fled, and the woman found her way to a nearby police station, where she narrated the incident.

On the basis of the woman’s complaint, the police filed a complaint against unknown people and started a search. The police arrested all five accused late Monday evening, two of them are under the age of 18.
The woman “was heading towards home when the incident took place. On getting information, the police swung into action and arrested all five accused,” Singrauli Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Sonkar, said.
Police said the accused are now in police custody, and the investigation going on.

This is not the first case of gang-rape with an elderly person in Singrauli. Earlier this year in February, a 70-year-old elderly woman was raped by a young man who was intoxicated. The accused was arrested when the police received the complaint.
From January 2017 to June 2021, Madhya Pradesh registered 26,708 cases of rape, 37 cases of gang rape after a murder, and 27,827 cases of kidnapping of minor girls, the state government had informed last week. Many of the accused are in custody and the victims didn’t get their justice.
