A 9-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped, murdered and then cremated by the criminals in southwest Delhi on Sunday.
On Monday police arrested four suspects identified by the victim’s mother including priest Radhya Sham (55), Laxmi Narayan (43), Kuldeep (63) and Salim (49) resident of the area.
The accused were charged under Section 376 (rape), Section 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 204 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with the relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
The victim’s mother over the phone speak to ThePrint said that “only death penalty through a fast track court” will bring justice for her daughter.
The victim was the only child of her parents who lived in the village in a rented house in front of a crematorium. On Sunday at 5:30 pm, the victim’s mother told her to bring cold water from the cooler. Around 6 pm the priest, Radhey Shyam and two-three known people of the girl’s mother informed her about her daughter clamming that she got electrocuted while taking water from the cooler.
The priest dissuaded the mother from informing police about this saying that police will make a case out of it and during the post-mortem doctor will remove her organs, so it’s better to cremate her.
There were burn marks between her left wrist and elbow, and her lips were turned blue, a police officer said.
The girl was cremated but later woman cry which raised the alarm and 200 villagers were gathered to make a PCR call.
After receiving the call police team rushed to the spot. The situation was brought under control. The woman gave her statement and the police registered the case. The priest was taken into custody and a forensic lab team and crime team were called to collect evidence from the scene, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Southwest Ingit Pratap Singh said.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) said where the water cooler is located has been thoroughly examined as there were reports of electrocution. When checked by an electrician analysed experts a heavy flow current was observed from the cooler.
FSLRohini Director Deepa Vera said, “Our forensic experts from Mobile Forensic Crime Scene Unit which is deployed at the Delhi Cantt police station reached the scene of the crime and extended forensic support to the Delhi police”.
Only the legs of the deceased were recovered and it is very difficult to ascertain whether she was raped or not, said the police. They also said the accused will be interrogated.
Delhi Women and Child Development Minister, Rajendra Pal Gautam visited to meet the victim’s family. He said that “this is a very shocking matter. I have spoken to the DCP and DM here. I asked them that the matter should be investigated in a fast track manner.

Gautam also said that we will talk to CM Arvind Kejriwal and provide compensation to the victim’s family as soon as possible and we will provide necessary legal assistance if needed.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal through his tweet said that he will visit to meet the victim’s family tomorrow, and do everything possible to help the family in this fight for justice.
“The murder of a 9-year-old innocent in Delhi after the brutal is very shameful. There is a need to improve law and order in Delhi. The culprits should be given capital punishment at the earliest. Going to meet the victim’s family tomorrow, will do everything possible to help the family in this fight for justice.”
