On social media, a video of a girl singing the renowned devotional song “Harivarasanam” with a mesmerising voice has gone viral, with the claim that she is Ammeya Yesudas, granddaughter of legendary singer KJ Yesudas. “She is famous singer K.J. Yesudas’ granddaughter Ameya,” several Facebook users claimed after sharing the video. When sung with dedication by a devotee, such a fascinating melody rises up.”
According to our sources, the girl in the viral video is not KJ Yesudas’ grandchild. Srilalitha Bhamidipati is an Andhra Pradesh-based singer.
One interesting detail about ‘Harivarasanam’ is that it is a particular song sung at Kerala’s Sabarimala temple and is known as Lord Ayyappa’s lullaby. There are other versions of the song, but the one sung by Yesudas is the most popular.
We discovered that the girl in the viral video is Srilalitha Bhamidipati, as numerous social media users pointed out. Using this as a guide, we conducted a keyword search and discovered the same video on her YouTube account, which was posted on December 17, 2019.
On the same day, Srilalitha posted the identical video to her Facebook page. The singer lives in Andhra Pradesh, according to her Facebook page’s about section.
Srilalitha was asked for comment on the viral claim. “Many Facebook sites and YouTube channels have uploaded my music with the caption that I am the grandchild of KJ Yesudas sir,” she wrote in response to our email. I’ve stated on numerous occasions that I’m Srilalitha Bhamidipati, not Ammeya Yesudas. Of course, I am his biggest admirer, but I am not his granddaughter.”
KJ Yesudas received the Padma Shri award in 1975, the Padma Bhushan award in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan award in 2017. He’s recorded over 50,000 songs in a variety of languages.
Vijay Yesudas’ daughter Ammeya is the daughter of KJ Yesudas. We compared a screen shot from the popular video with a photo of Ammeya published by Vijay on his Instagram profile. Ammeya appears to be much younger than Srilalitha in these photographs.
As a result, it’s clear that a recording by Andhra vocalist Srilalitha Bhamidipati is being misidentified as KJ Yesudas’ granddaughter Ammeya.
