Fact check: The UP police investigated the Taziya in jaunpur which was opposed by the people on Friday night. They surrounded the Shahganj police station and started rites on road.
The shiya islamic people has accused the police that they have damaged the taziya’s. Taziya was kept in the two houses in Badi Mohalla. It was found damaged which, the people said that the police tried to damage it. Consequently, to cancel the Muharram procession. Also, they accused that the police indecently behaved with the Taziya makers and their families. However, the police has denied the accusations.
Accusing the police, people started the rites on the road at around 10pm. The people started shouting to suspend the Shahganj police officers. SDM and CO went to control the situation. After fact checking, SDM Rajesh Kumar Verma has stated that they interviewed the people and will catch the guilty soon.
Initially, government said No procession (tazia) would be allowed during the 10 days of Muharram, from August 10 to 19. The government issued such notice in order to ensure the Covid-19 guidelines. People have objected to this circular released. DGP also asked to study the areas where incidents have taken place during Muharram and take measures to keep things normal.
The Uttar Pradesh government has banned the Muharram in view of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel has guided some protocols. He has stated that Muharram must be observed in the state in accordance with Covid behaviour.
Maulana Abbas said, “The DGP should know that Muharram is certainly not a ‘festival’ but a period of mourning. The rules shows the insensitivity of the state government towards the Muslim community.” For this, the All India Shia Personal Law Board held a meeting to discuss the issue.
