The South Korean show Squid Game has been the talk of the town since its release on Netflix. On Wednesday, the show officially became Netflix’s biggest original series launch. The Korean drama was watched by 111 million users in its first 28 days, knocking Bridgerton (82 million) off the top spot.
The nine-part thriller, in which cash-strapped contestants play children’s games with deadly consequences to win 45.6 billion.

Writer Hwang Dong-hyuk had no one to launch the show for 10 years.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the show revealed that no one was ready to release the show, local studios rejected the script and termed it too violent. For 10 years, he tried until 2019, when finally Netflix greenlit the project but in a series format. It was originally called “Round Six.”
The Creepy Doll is real!
If you are a true Squid Game stan, you can visit the creepy doll from the first episode “Red Light, Green Light”. The Doll stands in Jincheon County, a rural area about three hours north of Seoul. According to a report in Koreaboo, the giant doll stands at the entrance of a horse carriage museum called Macha Land.

Considering his hit films such as Silenced, The Fortress, and Miss Granny, Hwang Dong-hyuk originally envisioned Squid Game as a movie. However, it took the shape of a show when the makers started working on it.
The director lost 6 teeth while filming
It might come as amusing to some, but it is actually true that director Hwang lost 6 teeth while filming the show. Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “On my left side, I still don’t have two molars. I need to get implants but haven’t had the time.”
Phone Numbers used in the show were real
In the latest controversy, it was discovered that the phone number used in the show actually belonged to individuals. Kim Gil-young and an unnamed man reportedly received over a thousand calls per day from people requesting an invitation to join the game. Presidential candidate Huh Kyung-young even offered 100 million won to buy the number.
Sadly, for the two individuals, they are not able to switch their mobile numbers as it is linked to their work. But Netflix has responded on solving the issue. “Together with the production company, we are working to resolve this matter, including editing scenes with phone numbers when necessary.”
The set has clues for upcoming games
The makers left plenty of Eastern eggs for viewers to guess what was in store for the players next. It was noted that the dorm walls where the players wake up features drawings on them. If you look closely, you will see that these drawings serve as clues to understand what games are awaiting the hostages.
Ji-Yeong’s character was originally planned to be the boy
Ji-yeong, Lee Yoo-mi’s character has become a fan favorite of the show. However, Ji-yeong was almost not set to appear. Director, Hwang had originally planned for her to be a male character called Ji Yong. But while shaping the characters, Hwang realized that female characters could bring more life and persuasion to the show.
Squid Game is Jung Ho-yeon first movie
Many may not know this but Jung Ho-yeon who plays Kang Sae-byeok has never acted before. In fact, the model-turned-actress made her acting debut with the series. Upon watching her audition clip, Hwang knew ‘this is the girl we want.
