Indian OTT platform SonyLIV finally executes its planned global expansion and launch in Canada on Oct. 15 with the release of Family Saga ‘Tabbar’.
The service will cost CAD$9.99 ($8.05) monthly or CAD$49.99 ($40.30) annually. The streamer reveals wide rollout plans from October, backed by a 40-strong new originals slate.
In Canada, eight-episode series will be available at launch. Direction by Ajitpal Singh, Written by Harman Wadala and Sandeep Jain, the production by Ajay G. Rai of JAR Pictures. The movie has its set in and around Jalandhar, Punjab.
The series maps the journey of the Singh family and how their life takes a 360-degree turn after an unfortunate incident. The cast includes Pavan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak, Gagan Arora, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Kanwaljeet Singh, and Ranvir Shorey.

Ajitpal says, he is attracted to those stories that provide him possibilities and freedom to explore subtext and themes.
He says, ‘Tabbar is one such story’, “On the surface, it’s a crime thriller, but once you dig deeper, it’s a human drama and you will find themes like God vs no God, Evil vs Good, and drugs, along with spirituality and suffering.
Further adds, “I was confident that if I was given freedom, I will be able to shape this story in a very refreshing way mainly because I also come from Punjab and I understand that land very well.”
