On 16th July, KGF: Chapter 2 made history as its teaser registered 200 million views in six months. Following this feat, maker Prashanth Neel and actor Yash expressed their gratitude towards their fans.
In an exclusive interview with BollywoodLife, Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment, who is the official distributor for KGF: Chapter 2, said that the director, producers, and the lead cast are ready to wait a little while longer for the Covid situation to die down and are also hoping for a proper theatrical release. However, as to the pandemic, theatres are not allowed to function at normal capacity by the Government, so the makers might have to wait longer.
Ritesh Sidhwani revealed, “KGF 2 would be out as soon as possible because the makers are very clear they have to wait for the theatres to open. Plus, it’s more of a pan-India release, with the South market (taken into consideration). We’re only distributing it this side (in North Indian markets), so it’s not our decision mainly. It’s up to the producer, Vijay (Vijay Kiragandur), and Yash and the Director, Prashanth (Prashanth Neel). So, they are going to decide that.”
In an earlier interview, it was revealed that the makers are hoping for a Diwali release.
KGF: Chapter 1 revolves around the life of Rocky (Yash) and how he struggles through poverty to become a high-ranking gangster. He later reforms and poses as a slave to assassinate a cult’s heir. The film grossed Rs 250cr in its theatrical run and broke the record of highest-earning Kannada movie.
Actor Yash will reprise his role for KGF: Chapter 2. Actors Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, and Prakash Raj have also joined the cast. Directed by Prashanth Neel, it will be produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Karthik Gowda.
